The Prince of Peace: What would you do?

Image
In the spirit of the season... Here is a piece from my brook... What would you do if he came to your house? When you see him coming, would you meet him at the door? With arms outstretched in welcome to your heavenly visitor Or would you have to change your clothes before you let him in? Or hide some magazines, and put the bible where they’d have been? Would you hide your music and put some hymn books out? Could you let Jesus walk right in, or would rush about? And I wonder- if the savior spends a day or two with you; Would you go right on doing the things you always do? Would you go right on saying the things you always say? Would life continue as it does from day to day? Would you take Jesus with you everywhere you’d planned to go? Or would you change your plans for just a day or so? Would you be glad to have him meet your closest friends? Or would you hope they stay away until his visits ends? Would you be glad to have him stay forever on and ...

Yesterday

Image
Yesterday while evangelizing I met a young man, a supermart guard, whose face at first wasn’t welcoming. I had said to myself, if I go to him and he tells me off, I will just pray for him and go my way, he was my third target to channel the word and love of God to… Saying a little prayer, I advanced on him with a big smile and greeting. Truth was I had followed my sister to get groceries at their mart and she was seriously wasting my time; while I stayed outside to get fresh air, she was just busy chatting inside, that was when I saw him and not only was his body language expressing pain, I just knew I had to talk to him about Christ’s love and encourage him to make him feel better. Here we go…. Trying to hurry my sister to come along, I smiled and said “My name is Anne” what is your name? He said “Solomon”, from his tonation I knew clearly he was from the north and the tribal marks on his face did the justice to confirming he was a northerner, Are you a Christian? I asked… ...

Amaka's Faith: My Testimony.

Image
Imagine yourself pondering over how you were going to pray for a loved one... How bad you needed someone to share a testimony to inspire you and drive you through looking for the perfect words to say, Then it occurred to me, I have a testimony! I had broken my leg recently, and I recall being worried, and confused, because while I was at the hospital, my colleagues were in school. But I tried to appear strong, and kept praying to God. I had two surgeries, one to place an external fixation, which was an iron rod and some pins drilled into my bone, to hold my bones together, while the wound healed, and the other for a skin graft, so the injury would heal fast.  After 2months of having an external fixation, and a month with a cast, making it 3months, I went for a checkup, and the consultant saw from the x-ray, and examination of the leg, that my bones were not completely joined. The fibula had come together, and seemed to be preventing the tibia from joining. He put a new c...

THIS LITTLE LIGHT OF MINE Just last week Friday I saw a scenario that totally almost moved me to tears…… It was democracy day and there were limited movements, the road was quite carless and free. I had gone to the clinic as early as 7:30am so as not to miss the doctor’s appointment and just as much in add time to get responded to early, obviously I met people there. Looool! There was this old woman who was finding it very hard to read the information on her new card to verify if it were correct and another young pregnant lady trying her best to pick up the pen that had just dropped to the floor, I gladly helped them both sequentially and the chorus of  “Ese o! Corper” (Corper Thank You) filled the tiny air. I just figured it was best I wore my heard dressing to the clinic since I wasn’t dressed in my khaki. It did take hours before the only Doctor on duty for the day finally came, who could blame them it was a public holiday and everyone was trying to find a resting sol...

The Spinning Wheel

Image
In ordering your private world, Gordon Macdonald tells the story of Mohandas Gandhi, the Hindu leader who was known as “India’s George Washington” by leading his people to national independence. People who have read biographies of Gandhi or have seen his life portrayed in film are often impressed by his calm and serene character. Gandhi frequently was found among the poor and diseased in India’s cities. He would walk among them offering a touch of hope, a word of encouragement, or a gentle affirming smile. The next day Gandhi might be found in palaces and government buildings negotiating with the most powerful and educated men of his age. How did he keep a balanced sense of self in these vast extremes of Indian society? How did he maintain humility when the great masses of people cheered him as a hero or he was summoned to talk with kings and government leaders? Gandhi spun the wool from which his clothes were made. When he returned to his simple dwelling, he sat on the floor ...

#poemoftheday : Madam Kumolu

Image
MADAM KUMOLU Here comes thee once more, Longtime ago you disappeared; The thin air felt your absence, Pollution left our hood. Madam kumolu!   Here comes thee once more, Though a bit pregnant,  With unhealthy quadruplet- Trampled tranquility; Bountiful iniquity; Heightened diversity; And moral complexity. Madam kumolu!!   Unwelcome guest, We want you no more, Wiser we now are, Awake our consciousness remains, Stronger our veins fare; Not Manchester-like, Madam kumolu!!! We are now united. Leave...take a bow, Perchance, You might have a thinking box for that; Take your leave, For the dawn is new. Poem by: BELLO, Idris Olakunle Poet, Arts Administrator &Critic

Memoirs of a Yikpata Camper 2.

PART 2 Why?  Funmi saved my eyes and not my ‘ass’ in this context. Loooool! We all slept late , only for me to wake up to her  taps around 3am and a burning face with it… yes my whole face was on fire, I managed to get out of my net and Funmi just screamed. What? What is wrong? Funmi talk to me, what is going on?  Trying so hard to get her attention and her torch away from my face… I was scared and only for Fidara to come look at my face and she finally said my eyes were RED.  The mosquito net must have smoked your eyes, followed by series of questions thrown at me. Did you sundry the net before using it last night? Did you open your eyes while you slept? Did you wash your net before coming to camp? Unfortunately I did none of such things… a big NO! Then came in the bunch of remedy suggestions, flying around the air… I think you should wash your face… No! I think its best you go to the clinic, No! Let her just r...

Game of Thrones( Season 5) Episodes 2 review.

GAME OF THRONES SEASON 1: EPISODE 2. By: Debola Anne   “He may be young but he is the commander we turn to when the night was darkest” - Samwell Tarly . Now don’t you just wish you’ve got a friend like Sam, he did a great job giving out that nomination speech. Thus lets All hail! The new Lord Commander of the Nights Watch… “Jon Snow”. Can’t help but acknowledge this was my favourite scene in the whole of the Episode, he’s also one of my favourite characters and just beneath that rippled Bastard heart lies a true son of Ned Stark, I wish his father were alive to see that part too. Not only did Jon refuse to be legally called Jon Stark but he also refused to give up himself as a boy toy to Stannis. Tyrion wasn’t joking when he had asked if he could drink himself to death on their way to Meeren because that was just what he was doing, and of cause his new obsession for taking a walk outside in the open kept Lord Varys frustrated and well, he just had to keep re...

Memoirs of a Yikpata Camper Blue skies, Birds chirping and enough Woof! Woof! Woof! did the trick… No better morning wakeup call than our annoying neighbor’s dogs … Angrily rolling over the bed and curling my hands to my head, it was right then I realized I slept without my hair net on… eishhh! My new locks were everywhere * I don’t care face on*   Debola! It’s almost 7:00am’ Bunny called from the bathroom… ‘I am already up! I shouted. This wasn’t just any Tuesday morning, neither was it just any day… It’s the day the Lord as made. The day Mystique will be going off to the NYSC orientation camp, the day I will eventually get to sleep with strangers in a big hostel (#somuchforprivacy) and set my foot on Kwara state’s soil. As curious as I thought I was that’s the only close-north western state my adventurous spirit has never dragged me into. I can’t believe I have never visited Ilorin or the popular Offa… let alone this Yikpata suburb the camp is supposed to be situa...
